South Korea vs Finland

Hello everyone.
Today our teacher has focused the lesson in this question: South Korea and Finland: two nations that have completely opposite approaches whose students consistently rank on the top of the world. How is that possible?
Before answered it, we watched a video and, after watched it we have to work in the question I put above.
So, in South Korea students spend many hours at school because they want to have a very good formation. For example children get up very early, do physical exercise and have a very healthy breakfast, because parents think a healthy life helps children in their stududies. Also,
In addition, children go to extra lessons after school and parents spend a lot of money, so children think they have the responsability of studying hard.
In Finland students spend less time in school but there, teaching is a very respected profession, there are great teachers. Teachers have to study very hard to work in Finland, it's very difficult to work there if you are not qualified. But on th other hand. they can teach with more autonomy.

EDUCATION IN GREECE: background and context.

History of Greek civilization. Political, social and economic context from the 5th century b.C.
During de 5th century there is an enhancement of the Greek civilization after a war and conquest of territories period.
Economy grows up its models, from simple models based on barter to little more complex models in the Currency Age.
Commerce among countries goes on, although economy centre is still being subsistence economy.
Women are completely excluded of citizenship and was thought that girls didn´t deserve of going to school. Women´s job was home tasks and taking care about their children and relatives.

The great concern of Greek polis was politics that allowed the correct and fair working of cities.
Education was for family scope. It didn´t exist a general thought about anything, so all thought scope was relegated to individuals.
This thought grows up and the philosophical interrogation appears. Individuals started to understand the need of found a logic and coherent explanation for common phenomena both the polis and the Earth.
This thought starts to be transmitted among society until everyone started to understand that Earth rules could not come at all from Gods and Demons. That became the great Greek achievement and revolution.

Nowadays every science is based on experiments and observation, it says, every logic that is thought to be an universal rule must be demonstrated through experimentation. Back to the polis age, Greeks notionalists were convinced that it was possible to get into a certain scientific affirmation through the thought scope. It was the beginning of metaphysics.
Maths, physics and biology grew up considerably. However, the main Greeks scientific achievements will become after Plato death, thanks to the named Pythagoreans Age.
A solid an extended Cosmos explanation was achieved. Greeks got into explanations of cosmos rules and planets and main corps movements as sun, moon and stars. Although all of that rules were a mistake that will be demonstrated through History, these rules allowed the enhancement of Astronomy around the world.
Thanks to Plato the most important questions of Greek philosophy were answered. The Plato´s most important work, Republic, got into a high social recognition and Plato´s thought mostly accepted in society.

Plato started to worried about education and instruction so he funded The Academy, where Aristotle studied, which it´s considered the first university in History.

TRADITIONAL HISTORY VS NEW HISTORY

Hello everyone.

Today session was about different ways of understanding and learning, or even just reading, History.
During several years we´ve understood History as something related with kingdoms, wars, conquests, kings and queens, princes and princesses, even weddings… Or laws, governs, wars again… This list will never end. If we open our minds, making an effort, we could include Economy in this list, because of it role related with people. You know, thanks to Economy we have social stages during History and social stages are guilty of a lot of very big events through years. So, yes, Economy could be a main role in this list. But, if we make a bigger effort, we could include Church in this list too. Why Church? Well, during History, in Middle Age for example, Church was the real power over the Earth. Church had a high social recognition in that ages and although was respected by people. So, now, we have a more or less complete list of main roles in History. On the first hand we have General History (remember: wars, kingdoms etc…), on a second hand we have Economy (social stages and company) and on a imaginary third hand we have Church. Well that´s History… But, where is Art? Where is Science? Education?... These are not History? Here´s the piece of debate: the concept of History that we have, it´s wrong, so clear out your mind and go on reading.

As we said before Traditional History is essentially about politics, economy and far below Church. Then Science, Art and Education are “other History”. It´s History but not History, they are another thing, we can´t name them but they are there so… Wrong. New History is about human activity. Everything is History. The first space travel, is History (and science), Da Vinci is History (and art even science too), how first human beings learnt about everything and then, taught the same, is History (and Education). So, History is all about humans do, or have done, or will do. History is everything that makes something a turning point, that charges the clock, that spin the world. It´s everything that tell something about us, no matter with discipline: History is just, History.

- Now we are going to present some ways to follow for understanding differences between Traditional History (T.H.) and New History (N.H.):

First of all, T.H. is a tale of things, facts that are told for sorting years in to Ages. N.H. is about analysis of structures. Not enough with memorising a list of years and kings, is about understanding the social and universal moment. Why is happening that and why now. That are the study scopes. And this move us to the next point…

Here we have the classic view of things from above. The facts we were talking before are great deeds of kings, governs… etc. N.H. is about people views, how society evolve, and about experiences and thoughts of ordinary people.

On the third place we have that T.H. is based on documents. It says, we have and official point from authorities. On Middle Age, kingdoms wrote about all. That´s the problem, only kingdoms wrote about that, and obviously, any type of revolution is something that confronts with another thing. So, for kingdoms, revolutions are the bad of the story. If we go on on these revolutions will be always the bad guy of the story, because revolution means to go against the system. And usually in History revolutions started turning points or new ages, it is not the bad guy and are not less official than kingdoms essays. We must change our point of view about this, is just more History not better or worster than.

Finally, T.H. is objective. Main concerned about is to give facts to the readers. N.H. is about approaches, an explanation for things, for good things and bad things,
but the concern is to give reasons, not facts.

Well, we hope that presentation will help to understand about importance of evolve our way of understanding History. History is needed to be understood as a whole and not as a collection of things. That’s a new turning point. See you on my next post! Thanks for read it.

EDUCATION IN GREECE: introduction.

Hi!! My teacher at the university told to us that we have to do a proyect about EDUCATION IN GREECE in groups, and we have started today. Our teacher explained to us that we will have one day per week to do this proyect, and also we have to put each day the things that we were doing for the final proyect.
Today I'm going to add some general information about how was the education in the old Greece:

During the old Greece, only men couldhave access to the education not likewoman, who only could be educated fromtheir mothers or grandmothers. They learnt how to cook, sew, basic lecture and maths.
Another difference of education from thenand nowadays is that before, education wasn't obligatory because the figure of thefather or even another person couldeducate their children untill they becameoverage

During the first seven years, Children were educated by their mothers who taught them mitology and traditionalhistory. After sever years they wereformed in grammar, music, athletics or even they started to create their first poems.

In the old Greece the soul was learnt with music where lira was the principal music insrument. Also they learnt how to sing and dance. Gimnastics was practicatedoutdoors, naked and complemented with a oboe.
